Politics

There is an old saying that religion and politics do not mix or that politics should never be brought up in the church. Is that true? No. The truth of the matter is that politics is very important and impacts the kingdom of God. That is not to say that preachers should be too caviler in the pulpit about their political beliefs because it can be very easy to overshadow the gospel with political fervor. Though there is a time to speak out and Christians should certainly be involved in the direction of their nation. The problem arises when people start to view their theology through the lens of their politics instead of viewing their politics through the lens of their theology. Sometimes people blur the lines and confuse the two, so caution is warranted. Though if Christians are to champion the truth and morality then it is imperative that politics is taken seriously.

The government will never usher in the kingdom of God. Even so, it can either be a boon or a detriment. What sense does it make to stand idly by while people enshrine immorality when something could be done to nurture an environment that is conducive to biblical values? If Christians do not stand up for the most vulnerable people, then how can they boldly stand before God? To forgo the opportunity to make a difference in the name of Jesus is to isolate and insulate oneself from the world which has never been the charge given to disciples of Jesus Christ. Christians are not to be of the world, but they are certainly in the world to make a difference for the kingdom. It is to that end that politics must be understood and used.

Welcome to Amor Dei. This blog focuses on an array of topics through a Christian lens with a particular focus on apologetics. Jesus tells us to love the Lord with all our minds, and it is the responsibility of believers to adopt the mind of Christ. It is my prayer that we can do that together by pursuing the truth with integrity.
